Identify Image Information
Command Line Image Identification
The identify command is a powerful utility for
describing the format and characteristics of one or more image
files. It's an essential tool for developers and system
administrators who need to quickly ascertain details about image
assets without opening them in a graphical editor.
Get Image Dimensions
To efficiently retrieve the width and height of an image file, you
can use the identify command with the
-format option. This allows you to specify exactly what
information you want to extract. For multiple images, simply list
them after the command.
# identify
# Describes the format and characteristics of one or more image files.
# Show width and height of the image. Multiple images can be provided.
identify -format '%w %h' FILE
Display Detailed Image Metadata
For a comprehensive overview of an image's properties, including its
format, color space, depth, resolution, and embedded metadata (like
EXIF data), use the -verbose flag. This option provides
extensive details about the specified image file.
# Display lots of meta-data in FILE.
identify -verbose FILE
